How Can We Get Tax Policy Right?
a conversation with
Tom Volgy,
U of A professor and former Tucson mayor
Steve Kozachik,
city council member
John Kromko,
Pima Association of Taxpayers and former legislator
With decades of public service, activism and scholarship between them, three local leaders will discuss the nature and importance of taxation in a just, sustainable society. The focus will be on the challenges facing local and state governments.
Tax policy has taken the main stage of public interest at the local, state and national levels. How government should fund itself is a question elected officials seem unable to address in public without using the topic to score political points. Can good public policy trump political opportunism in the end, or are we doomed to a vicious cycle of electioneering and bureaucratic malaise? An economic downturn exposes the weaknesses of current tax policy. What will it take to correct the system?
What do you think?
